MPLS Photo Center Group Exhibition

I'm very excited to be part of a my first ever group exhibition at Mpls Photo Center, opening this Friday night. This is extra exciting for me because the exhibit was curated by Cig Harvey, a photographer whose work I respect very much. picture-this

On Exhibit: January 18th through March 2nd, 2013 Opening Reception: January 18th, 2013 from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM Location: Mpls Photo Center Second Floor Gallery

Here's the photo that I'll have in the show. It's one that I took on my recent trip to Europe and has sparked an idea for a photo project that I'm researching. More on that later.

I printed this at 12" x 18" to show lots of detail and Hang It did a great job with the framing. I'm looking forward to seeing it on the wall with all of the other fantastic work in the show.

If you come out to the opening, please find me and say hello.

Unmasked & Anonymous

This past weekend I had the fortune to visit the Milwaukee Art Museum. Architecturally, the museum is amazing and their collection is rock solid. If you're in the area you must check it out. I was lucky to be there to see the Unmasked & Anonymous exhibit.

Wisconsin photographers John Shimon & Julie Lindemann make use of antique cameras, modern lens technology, artificial light, and contemporary pop culture to create portraits of the people in their native state. This exhibition juxtaposes 43 of their original photographs and a multimedia installation with 54 portraits from the Museum’s Collection (including daguerreotype portraits, as well as photographs by Alfred Stieglitz, Diane Arbus, Sally Mann, and Larry Clark, among others) to present new perspectives on one of the oldest artistic genres—portraiture.

My favorite photo in the collection, and one that was receiving lots of attention from everyone there was Sally Mann's "Candy Cigarette."

The exhibit runs through November 30 and is well worth checking out. If you can't make it, check out the online gallery.
